Radiointerviews over de geschiedenis van zoönosen en ‘social distancing’: Floor Haalboom en Rina Knoeff
Op zondag 12 april waren ons huidig bestuurslid Floor Haalboom en ons voormalig bestuurslid Rina Knoeff in de uitzending van Onvoltooid Verleden Tijd (OVT) op radio 1. In deze crisistijd van COVID-19 werden ze als experts geïnterviewd over de geschiedenis van zoönosen en ‘social distancing’.

Gewina welcomes Floor Haalboom as our newest board member. She specialises in the modern history of (animal) medicine, One Health, public health, and intensive livestock farming. In addition, Haalboom is interested in environmental history, particularly agriculture and animal husbandry.
Haalboom’s PhD thesis is titled “Negotiating Zoonoses: Dealings with Infectious Diseases Shared by Humans and Livestock in The Netherlands (1898–2001)” (Utrecht, 2017). The current COVID-19 crisis only shows the urgency of her line of research.

The Turriano ICOHTEC Prize is an Early Career Prize for Books on the history of technology, sponsored by the Juanelo Turriano Foundation and consists of 2,500 Euro. The prize-winning book will be presented and discussed at a special session of the next ICOHTEC symposium, in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, from 13-17 July 2020 (http://www.icohtec.org/w-annual-meeting/katowice-2019/). An additional 500 Euro is available to the winner in support of travelling to the conference to receive the prize. ICOHTEC, the International Committee for the History of Technology, is interested in the history of technology, focusing on technological development as well as its relationship to science, society, economy, culture and the environment. The history of technology covers all periods of human history and all populated areas. There is no limitation as to theoretical or methodological approaches.

In 2013 riep Gewina de Gewina-Descartes-Huygens Scriptieprijs voor Wetenschaps- en Universiteitsgeschiedenis in het leven. Tijdens de achtste Gewina Woudschoten Conferentie op 21 en 22 juni 2019 te Zeist zal deze prijs voor de derde keer uitgereikt worden.
